Photos by Robbie Shone @shonephoto | I’ve just returned from an assignment with National Geographic magazine visiting the beautiful caves of the Yucatan Peninsula. I was completely in awe of the crystal clear water. This stunningly turquoise water is the aquifer and main water source for the people, vegetation, and animals that live in the region. Unfortunately, a lot of the natural world here, including hundreds of cenotes—the deep pools shown in these images—could be under threat from the construction of the Tren Maya railway in Mexico.
