TOWN OF LAFAYETTE (WQOW) – Everyone is safe after emergency crews responded to a hazard call Monday afternoon.
It happened at The Zaniya Center located off Highway X in the Town of Lafayette. The business is a massage therapy center.
Crews originally responded to a call of a structure fire. Upon arriving they found no signs of damage. Instead, they investigated a ‘strong odor’ in the laundry room of the building.
“Initially we thought it might be an electrical fire. We ruled that out, when we have a fire here in the Town of Lafayette we call for mutual aid right away to get extra water on site. We cancelled them right away when we ruled out the electrical fire,” said Chippewa Fire District Deputy Chief Cory Jeffers.
Jeffers explained the building stored hazardous chemicals that could have been released. The City of Chippewa Falls hazmat team was called to clear the building due to an abundance of caution.
Again, nobody was injured. They’re still investigating the smell.
