On Monday, November 24, without much notice to the general public the DG Market in Paden City, quietly opened its door to the public. Word of the long-awaited opening quickly spread through the community and the parking lot soon became filled with customers looking for Christmas gifts and other items including food and supplies. The opening was described as a soft opening to give shoppers and employees a chance to discover what was new in the expanded store.
Several customers were excited about the new addition to the community and expressed with pleasure the convenience of having the store right there in town.
“We no longer will need to drive to New Martinsville to pick up necessities. When the other Dollar General was here we used it a lot,” said Mary Matthews. “We are hoping we can do most of our shopping here. It will save us a lot of time and money.”
In the future once all the particulars are in place, the new store will have an official grand opening and welcome in the community.
Customers found that the cooler shelves were not yet stocked, as the store was waiting on equipment to operate the coolers to be installed. But that will soon be corrected.
“My family has been waiting for the opening. We don’t drive, so this will be a huge advantage for us,” said the Davis family. “Just yesterday we were out of some things and had to have them delivered, which cost us extra. This will help us a lot as we only get paid once a month.”
The parking lot was full, and customers were happy with the new selections of food and other items that were not offered in the old Dollar General store. No doubt this store will be a major asset to the community and nearby towns.
