Avalon, the talent management, television production and live promotion group, has acquired a stake in the British independent film and television producer Calamity Films, known for such films as Pride, Last Christmas, and Judy, and such hit series as Brassic.
The companies didn’t disclose the size of the stake or a price tag for the deal.
“The partnership will see Calamity Films, founded in 2013 by David Livingstone, align with the U.K.’s largest independent production company and a premier global talent management business,” Avalon said.
Pride won the Queer Palm at the Cannes Film Festival; Judy saw Renée Zellweger win such major acting awards as the BAFTA, Golden Globe and Academy Award for best actress; Last Christmas, starring Emilia Clarke, Emma Thompson and Henry Golding, became a global box office hit, grossing over $120 million worldwide; and Brassic is Sky’s most successful comedy series to date with seven seasons and 50 episodes.
“Calamity Films is currently part of the team developing Pride the Musical, reuniting director Matthew Warchus and writer Stephen Beresford, and set to open at the National Theatre in 2026, alongside a bold and diverse slate of new television and film projects,” the companies said on Thursday.
Said Calamity Films founder Livingstone, “We are incredibly pleased to be announcing our partnership with Avalon. We’ve known and admired the Avalon team, their projects, and independent spirit for many years, and I’m delighted we can further develop our relationship as Calamity looks ahead to its next chapter.”
Added Avalon CEO Laura Kennedy: “We love to partner with distinctive producers like David and share his commitment to talent-led, creative excellence. We are thrilled to be in business together moving forward.”
Calamity will retain its London offices.
