Dollar Tree going into former Rite Aid | Local Business News

Old Lycoming Township, Pa. — A Dollar Tree store will be moving into the former Rite Aid on Lycoming Creek Road.

Signs were posted recently on the building at 2023 Lycoming Creek Road announcing the dollar store is coming soon.

Officials for Dollar Tree did not immediately return a reporter’s request for comment. No opening date has been announced yet.

The store in Old Lycoming Township is currently undergoing renovations. A building permit on the door from Oct. 7 shows that Dollar Tree was approved to make alterations to the building.

Dollar Tree has purchased or leased several former Rite Aid locations after the national pharmacy chain closed all stores last fall due to bankruptcy.

Philadelphia-based Rite Aid filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for a second time in May. All of the chain’s several hundred stores were closed by the end of September, including the Lycoming Creek Road location.

The departure of Rite Aid has left approximately 1,250 store locations vacant. Dollar Tree has taken over several locations in Pennsylvania, including stores in Dauphin, Bucks, and Beaver counties. A location in Manor Township in Lancaster County opened last month.

Dollar Tree is known for selling merchandise priced for $1.25 or less including seasonal items, party supplies, household goods, personal care items, and snacks. Dollar Tree has more than 9,000 stores in the U.S. including one on Walnut Street in Williamsport, East Third Street in Loyalsock Township, and one on Southern Avenue in South Williamsport.
