Man United star sensationally DROPPED to face Crystal Palace after Ruben Amorim shared his concerning verdict on £25m player

Ruben Amorim has dropped Patrick Dorgu for Manchester United‘s trip to Crystal Palace after admitting the star is suffering a crisis of confidence.

Dorgu has dropped to the bench with Diogo Dalot coming in to replace him for the midday kick-off.

Amorim recently said of Dorgu: ‘You can feel the anxiety every time Patrick touches the ball. I can feel the anxiety.

‘When I see Patrick playing for the national team, he scored a great goal against Scotland and the decision that he made under pressure was completely different than the decision he’s making in our team. I think it’s the decision, he needs to be calmer playing the game.

‘I remember the shot against Everton. That was easier than the decision he had to make when a guy from Scotland was there. I saw it when he played in Italy.

‘But again, here is different and sometimes the pressure is hard for them in the beginning. He has time to improve.’

Dorgu, who was Amorim’s first signing in a £25.3million move from Lecce in January, has started eight of United’s 12 games in the left wing-back position this season.

Dalot has played on the other four occasions, switching from his preferred position on the right flank, and Amorim claims both players have been ‘far from the best’.

Dorgu has been unable to translate his international form to domestic football as of late.

Having scored in Denmark’s World Cup qualifying defeat to Scotland earlier this month, the 21-year-old fluffed a clear chance in United’s 1-0 loss to Everton at Old Trafford on Monday night.

Dorgu clearly has potential on the left flank for Amorim. The 21-year-old brings a dynamism and physicality which fits well with his 3-4-3 system.

He also has the versatility to play on the right and the left. Indeed, on his debut against Leicester in January he started on the right side.

Amorim said at the time: ‘He played a lot of times in Lecce on the right. That is one of the characteristics that we pay attention to a lot, to have a player like him.

‘He was a little bit anxious in the first touch with the ball. It’s a different league for him, different speed of the game, but he did well.

‘He has pace, he has strength, he’s going to improve a lot. And we, as a team, we need to play better to help these new guys to perform at the right level.’
