PALM DESERT, Calif. (KESQ) – This week’s Living Healthy segment is about the benefits of utilizing your body’s own healing through platelet rich plasma.
Platelet rich plasma uses a concentrated solution of a patient’s own platelets to promote healing and tissue repair.
News Channel 3 talked with Dr. Pamela Mehta with The Good Feet Store. Dr. Mehta points out that what you may not realize is this therapy can be used by itself or with stem cells to promote healing.
Platelet rich plasma can also be used as an alternative to surgery or help you heal after surgery.
Dr. Mehta says, “We can combine it with stem cells if you are looking for something more potent. Another option, if you do have to have surgery, you can put in the stem cells at the time of surgery, which is really just going to make that healing more robust.”
Dr. Mehta adds that if you are having extreme pain and need immediate relief, a cortisone injection and physical therapy might be your best option.
After getting relief, more rejuvenating therapies might be a consideration months later.
