Sprouts Farmers Market will open its new Longview store Oct. 31.
The store is at 2547 Judson Road in the North Loop Plaza shopping center at Loop 281 and Judson Road.
Grand opening events start with a ribbon-cutting at 6:45 a.m. Friday and continue through Sunday starting at 7 a.m. each day.
Product samples and scavenger hunts are part of the festivities.
New apartments offer affordable rents
The new Amber Meadows apartment complex at 1615 E. Fairmont St. is full after opening in February in Longview.
“We’re currently working off a waiting list,” Cortnie Corley, community manager, said this month at a ribbon-cutting and grand opening event.
The three-building complex has 66 units and offers affordable rent through a state-administered tax credit program that made building the complex less expensive so it can offer lower rents.
Rents range from $500 to $1,300 for two-and three-bedroom apartments that range in size from 900 square feet to 1,300 square feet. Residents may qualify to live there based on their income.
“I’m sure everybody’s well aware of the difficulties of developing new housing these days, economically, the cost, and you know the difficulties on that end,” said C.J. Lintner, vice president of development for Texas for KCG, the complex’s owners.
He expressed appreciation to the city of Longview for its cooperation in bringing the project to the city.
RJ Pasquesi, company president, echoed Lintner’s praise.
“We work in a lot of communities across the country, and some communities can be very difficult to work with, and others are a true pleasure….We really enjoyed from all aspects of our team … working with everybody in the city of Longview.
“It allows us to bring quality housing at a much cheaper cost,” Pasquesi said.
Offices relocate to new municipal annex
The former police department headquarters, at 302 W. Cotton St. in Longview, is now the Municipal Annex.
The renovated property houses the city’s Human Resources, Risk, Partners in Prevention, Grant and Human Services, Keep Longview Beautiful and the Municipal Court.
“By moving these city functions to our municipal campus, we will make it easier than ever for residents to connect with the City service they need,” said city spokesman Richard Yeakley.
The work was paid for through the 2018 bond election.
Walmart planning renovation
Walmart will begin a remodel of its Gilmer Road store in Longview next summer.
The $1.3 million project will include similar aspects to the “store of the future” remodels that have been taking place at other stores.
Information from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation said the general remodel will include “online grocery pickup expansion of 5,600 sq. ft.”
Store changes also could include an updated pharmacy, a new grab-and-go section, an expanded deli and produce section, a new community focused food and merchandise offering and a renovated apparel section.
