THE National newspaper’s staff were reminded yesterday of everyday lifestyle diseases and the importance of having a healthy diet.
A health advocate with Resource for Life operating under Home Health Education Services Media Sherol Banda said there was nothing more important than living a happy and healthy lifestyle.
“Lifestyle diseases is one of the biggest problems affecting the lives of our citizens,” she said.
“Cancer is one of them and it’s very sad to say the highest rates we hear every year are from our country.”
Banda said the type of food we eat would determine if we live longer.
“Always be mindful of what you are putting into your mouth, exercises that you do and water that you drink,” she said.
Banda also said water is important and it helps to clean out the kidneys, not frizzy drinks. Prevention is better than cure, she added.
“Improving our lifestyles is based on knowledge,” Banda said.

“We are reintroducing this holistic living by going back to the basics, where we come from and how we were brought up.”
Banda while sharing her experiences with people who are suffering from lifestyle diseases said they try their best to do door to door awareness targeting families.
She advocated on the eating a lot of organic produce, fruits and having a disciplined mindset that will help not only to protect an individual but a family.
“We are also selling books on healthy diet, what sort of medicinal plants to take for certain diseases and sickness.
“Basically, all these plants surround us but we are ignorant.”
