The son of a noted East Texas attorney was sworn in this past week in Upshur County District Court. Dain Goudarzi, son of Brent Goudarzi, will be the newest member of the Goudarzi & Young, LLP law firm.

The firm has offices in Longview and Gilmer.

Dain Goudarzi graduated from Gilmer High School. He received his undergraduate degree at the University of Alabama and his law degree from the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law.

During his third years as a law student, Dain Goudarzi had a provisional license to practice law from the State Bar of Texas. In a Gregg County courtroom, he attained a $170,000 verdict for his client, who had been involved in a car wreck.

Athens attorney Jeff Weinstein, a member of the state bar’s board of directors, said: “In 40 years of practicing law, I’ve never heard of a law student with a provisional bar card receiving this value of verdict on their own case.”

In an April story with the News-Journal, Dain Goudarzi said: “It’s my honor to follow in both my father and my uncle’s footsteps and come back home and provide a voice for those who would otherwise be voiceless. It’s that important. That’s why we have a legal system. That’s what separates the United States of America from every other country.”
