Calvià Town Hall and Consell de Mallorca sign an agreement for health promotion and prevention

The objective is prevention through different work lines: physical exercise, medical check-ups for the early detection of childhood obesity, workshops to promote healthy eating habits, emotional well-being and sleep hygiene, support for patients using the Balearic Islands’ Physical Activity Promotion and Exercise Prescription Plan (B@les and Força plans); roundtables organised with athletes, and the creation of joint wellness stays between both entities.

The agreement was signed at the Magaluf Athletics Track, an event attended by the Minister of the Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports of the Consell de Mallorca, Pedro Bestard, accompanied by the Island Director of Sports, Toni Prats. The island delegation was received by the mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual, and the deputy mayor for sports, Javier Tascón.

The mayor of Calvià highlighted the progress being made in the municipality in the area of prevention and promotion of healthy lifestyle habits: “Without a doubt, the development of the EMHAS is proving crucial for the management of new programmes that are helping Calvià citizens improve their life quality and create a more active society.” Regarding the signing of this agreement, the mayor highlighted the positive relationship with the Consell de Mallorca, expressed his gratitude for the institution’s support, and emphasised that the Town Hall and the Consell share the goal of contributing to a healthier society.

The Calvià UAEF focuses on prevention and the promotion of healthy habits

The UAEF Active Physical Exercise Unit, an initiative of the EMHAS, carries out cross-cutting work in coordination with various public administrations, facilitating the referral of physical exercise programmes from the municipality’s health centres.

Currently, the UAEF offers several physical exercise programmes adapted to different groups and needs. Amongst them are the B@les programme, a strength training programme for hotel chambermaids and/or people with musculoskeletal diseases, as well as the NINTAI programme, aimed at pregnant women.

New this year is a comprehensive pilot training programme for women in menopause, in which physical exercise is established as a key tool to improve health and well-being during this vital phase of a woman’s life.
