Explosions reported at business south of Mattoon IL | News

MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) – Several explosions were reported at a business south of Mattoon on Tuesday evening.

One WAND News viewer said several fire trucks and first responders were at ILMO. The business is located on Lake Land Blvd. just north of Lake Land College.

According to the company’s website, ILMO is a “single-source provider of industrial, medical, and laboratory gases in bulk, micro-bulk, cryogenic and cylinder solutions.”

Several images online showed a massive firefighter presence.

An employee at a hotel next door said he heard several explosions. He said police had streets blocked off. As of 7:30 p.m., he said the fire was still burning and believed a building on the property was on fire.

The Coles County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook that there was a “large active fire scene” on Rt. 45. The office asked people to avoid the area.

It’s unclear how the fire started or if anyone was hurt.

No other information was immediately available.

This is a developing story.
