Nigel Huddleston, MP for Evesham, visited the Badsey Slimming World group at Remembrance Hall earlier this week to meet members and learn about the organisation’s long-standing approach to healthy, sustainable weight loss.
With more than 56 years of experience, Slimming World invited Mr Huddleston to its morning session, led by consultant Jess Walsh, who has been supporting members for over a decade.
Ms Walsh said: “It was really important to showcase what we offer at Slimming World.
“With more and more focus being put on weight-loss medications, I’m incredibly proud of how we support members with mindset and behaviour changes for lasting success.”
During his visit, Mr Huddleston talked to Ms Walsh and group members about their personal weight-loss journeys and the programme’s food-optimising approach.
He also discussed the increasing use of weight-loss medication and its role within wider public health strategies.
The visit shed light on the continuous efforts of local groups, such as Badsey’s, in assisting residents to make long-term lifestyle changes—an approach that Slimming World says remains as important as ever in the face of rising national health concerns.
Mr Huddleston said: “It was great to join Jess and local Slimming World members at the Remembrance Hall in Badsey this morning.
“Slimming World is the UK’s largest lifestyle-based weight management programme, and it was good to talk to Jess and members about their own weight-loss and healthy lifestyle journeys and also discuss the recent rise in the uptake of weight-loss drugs and the role they should play in the health and well-being agenda.
“It was also fascinating to learn about the variety of food options available under the programme.
“Around two-thirds (64 per cent) of adults in England are living with obesity or are overweight.
“In Wychavon, the numbers are the highest in Worcestershire, so I am keen to support any and all efforts to promote healthier and happier lifestyles in our community.”
There are 15 Slimming World sessions that run across Evesham and Pershore, to find your local group head to the website.
