Arne Slot makes two changes to Liverpool side for PSV clash, as under-pressure manager bids to lift gloom with win at Anfield

Liverpool are without their No 1 goalkeeper again – just four days after his long-awaited return to the team.

Alisson is missing from the Reds starting XI with Giorgi Mamardashvili deputising for the Brazilian again.

It is understood it is down to illness rather than injury, which will come as a relief to fans of the Premier League champions who have lost eight of their last 11 with Alisson missing nearly two months of action.

Liverpool take on PSV Eindhoven at a bitterly cold Anfield this evening.

Arne Slot has been forced into the change – but it is not thought to be a recurrence of a hamstring injury that has plagued his campaign.

Hugo Ekitike also comes into the XI for Alexander Isak, who started on Saturday in the 3-0 embarrassment to Nottingham Forest.

Arne Slot has made two changes to the side that lost against Nottingham Forest

Isak struggled to impact the game and had only one reasonable chance in the game, that he scuffed tamely.

He was substituted for Federico Chiesa and has been replaced for the PSV clash by Ekitike, who has impressed more than his Swedish team-mate having signed in the summer.

Liverpool have won three and lost one in the Champions League so far, but would dearly love another victory to lift the gloom felt by a dreadful run in the Premier League.

Slot has named a strong side against the Dutch outfit and the Reds travel to face West Ham when they return to domestic duties on Sunday.
