“This is our 15th annual,” said Dale Robertson Center Manager Shelby Sarantakos, of Yukon Parks & Recreation. “We’re promoting a healthy lifestyle for our seniors – a healthy mind, body and spirit.

“We are a ‘place for life’ here at the DRC, and we want to make sure we’re making the most of that.”

About 150 people came out for this week’s Yukon Health & Fitness Day.

The Dale Robertson Center hosts a wide range of activities for Yukon residents ages 55 years and above. The center’s busy senior program offers active “older” adults dance classes, physical fitness classes, arts classes, trips, board games, cards, and special events. Activities emphasize the mind, body and spirit.

“We’re adding new classes,” Sarantakos said. “We’re trying to make sure that we’re offering as much as we can. And we’re open to any suggestions that our seniors have about what they’re wanting to get out of the center.”

Lunch is served Monday through Friday with shuttle services available to transport participants to and from the City of Yukon building.

“We have 25 vendors here today making sure everyone has a healthy, fun time,” Sarantakos said. “That’s six more vendors than last year.”

Attendees were encouraged to visit all vendor booths while watching demonstrations led by fitness/dance instructor James Williams. Seated Volleyball, Seated Exercise, Cardio-Sculpt, Tai Chi, and Drum Beats were popular center activities featured during Wednesday’s special event.

“James is showcasing some of the activities that we have here at the center during the week. This is all coordinated by our program specialists, Kiley Castrop and Terri Trent.”

The 2025 Yukon Health & Fitness Day title sponsors were Legend Senior Living, ArchWell Health and Navigating Medicare.

Other sponsors were BancFirst, Home Instead, Town Village Retirement Community, Trophy Insurance, Heartland Financial Group, Victorian Estates, Village at Oakwood, and Local Insurance Advisors.

The Dale Robertson Center’s manager since September 2024, Sarantakos was well pleased with her first Health & Senior Day.

“It’s a fantastic event,” she said. “I’m definitely blown away by the amount of resources we have here for our senior population. If anyone 55 and older is looking for a place to call home, we would love to have them come and join us.”

Dale Robertson Center staff welcomes anyone age 55 or above to stop by. Regular hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

“On average, we serve between 90 and 120 people five days a week,” Sarantakos said.
