Quebec-based SOPREMA, the Canadian-French construction solutions company, announced the launch of its new operations in San Miguel de Allende with an investment exceeding MX$5 billion. The initiative is set to begin in October 2025 and aims to strengthen both economic and social development in the region.
The announcement came after a meeting between SOPREMA CEO Richard Voyer and Guanajuato Governor Libia Dennise. “These alliances generate employment opportunities for our people, and I am confident that our state will continue to thrive,” said Dennise. The governor highlighted that the project would also involve local suppliers in the supply chain, boosting competitiveness in the construction sector.
Founded in 1908 in Strasbourg, France, SOPREMA has grown into a global leader in waterproofing, thermal and acoustic insulation, green roofing, and other building envelope solutions. Headquartered in Quebec, Canada, the company operates in over 90 countries and is recognized for innovation and environmental responsibility. Its initiatives include LEED-certified projects, green roof solutions, and membranes designed to reduce carbon footprints.
The investment is expected not only to expand SOPREMA’s industrial footprint but also to create specialized jobs and sustainable infrastructure projects, positioning San Miguel de Allende as an attractive destination for international investment.
In addition to its economic impact, SOPREMA emphasized its commitment to community engagement by promoting sports activities, particularly archery, reflecting the company’s philosophy of social involvement.
Guanajuato’s selection as the site for this new investment reflects the state’s competitive advantages in infrastructure, connectivity, and specialized workforce.
Guanajuato Attracts US$2.4 Billion in Investment
MBN reported that the state of Guanajuato has attracted US$2.4 billion in investments over the past nine months, reaching 30% of its US$8 billion goal for the current six-year administration, officials announced. The influx comes from 26 industrial projects across key sectors, including automotive, technology, medical devices, plastics, and services. State officials said the projects are expected to generate approximately 7,000 direct jobs in 10 municipalities, reinforcing Guanajuato’s position as one of Mexico’s leading industrial destinations.
Eighteen of the projects represent new investments, while the remaining eight involve expansions of existing operations. The projects span the municipalities of Irapuato, Silao, Leon, Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Abasolo, Celaya, Apaseo el Grande, Romita, and San Jose Iturbide, according to the State Ministry of Economy.
“This achievement underscores Guanajuato’s competitiveness and its appeal to both domestic and international investors,” the ministry said in a statement. “We have the infrastructure, the legal certainty, and a skilled workforce that continue to inspire confidence.”
