Pupils at Kneesall Church of England Primary School were treated to a special visit this week from Zack George, better known as Steel from BBC’s Gladiators, as he shared his journey to fitness and the importance of healthy living. The UK’s crowned fittest man held an assembly and visited classrooms, encouraging children to take charge of their own health.
He spoke about balanced eating, staying hydrated, and the benefits of exercise. “I want children to understand the importance of healthy, balanced eating and drinking water. It’s not about being perfect – even I enjoy treats – it’s about balance,” said Zack.
“Exercise makes you feel good and happy. I want children to feel confident and happy within themselves and not judge themselves or others. If a few children start making healthier choices after my visit, I’ll be very happy.”
As a token of thanks, pupils presented Steel with a box of seasonal vegetables, donated by Strawson’s and delivered by a parent who works at the company. Zack, who has visited around 280 schools, said: “This is the first time I’ve received such a healthy gift from a school. The children today have been amazing – really engaging and asking great questions.”

Year 6 pupil Ted said: “I think today has been really cool! After listening to Steel, I’ve decided to eat healthier foods and drink more water – starting today!”
Headteacher Emma Marfleet praised the visit: “Zack’s promotion of a healthy lifestyle and balanced diet is one we wholeheartedly support. His story has been inspirational for our pupils and staff alike and will be long remembered.”
Zack is touring schools across the UK with his Zactiv programme, which aims to promote physical activity, nutrition awareness and self-confidence in children.
