Cincinnati Bengals axe veteran quarterback amid losing streak and Joe Burrow injury nightmare

The Cincinnati Bengals have released quarterback Mike White amid a woeful start to the season, the team announced on Tuesday.

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said that the team intended to evaluate their quarterback options ahead of Week 6 but White won’t get a shot at all after he was cut from the practice squad.

Cincinnati signed White on September 16 in the wake of Joe Burrow’s injury in Week 2, which could sideline him for the remainder of the season.

However, Jake Browning has started the last three games for the Bengals, which have all ended in defeat, while White has been resigned to the practice squad.

White’s axing leaves Brett Rypien as the only backup to Browning on the 53-man roster, while Sean Clifford remains on the practice squad.
