Which actor known for comedy *wasn’t* good when they were cast in a serious role?

So, we all know that Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler and Steve Carell were great in serious roles. At this point, it’s not a surprise anymore when an actor known for comedy does great. It’s still presented as if we were supposed to be surprised whenever that happens with someone new. So – is there any evidence to the contrary?
