Nick Cannon has claimed the path laid out to Kyrie Irving to return to the Brooklyn Nets team after his anti-Semitism row last week is ‘dehumanizing’.
The Nets outlined six conditions to Irving that he must complete before he is back in the team, after suspending him for a minimum of five games after he shared a link to anti-Semitic film on social media and refused to apologize.
One step – an apology for linking to the movie – appears to have already been completed with the statement he posted on Instagram on Thursday night, which came after the Nets said he was suspended.
Irving must also complete the anti-hate causes the Nets first mentioned on November 2. It included a $500,000 donation to the Anti-Defamation League but last week, its CEO Jonathan Greenblatt – who was in discussion with Cannon when he made the claims – said the organization could not accept the money while Irving refused to apologize.
The third step would see Irving complete sensitivity training and step four would be to complete anti-Semitic and hate training – both of which are created by the Nets.
Step five would see Irving meet with Jewish community leaders in Brooklyn and then, in step six, Irving would meet with Nets owner Joe Tsai to demonstrate what the Athletic reported would be ‘the lessons learned and that the gravity of the harm caused is understood’.

The Brooklyn Nets star caught the attention for publicizing the 2018 film ‘Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America’ on social media with a link to its Amazon page
Irving angered many after posting a link to the Amazon page for the 2018 film ‘Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America’ last week.
The film is based on a 2015 book of the same name, which has been described as ‘venomously anti-Semitic.’ Specifically, it quotes Hitler to convince the audience about the existence of a Jewish plan for world domination.
But according to Cannon, the steps the Nets want to see from Irving next are not the right way to being about a true resolution.
He said to Greenblatt: ‘I can wholeheartedly say I know Kyrie Irving is not anti-Semitic.’
Greenblatt responded by saying: ‘When given the chance to say are you anti-Semitic or not, he didn’t say “No i’m not” – at the press conference he said “Stop dehumanizing me”.
‘The movie says white Jews invented the holocaust. Ok, I know that isn’t right, there’s a gigantic historical record. Jewish people know that when you dehumnaize in this way, what is round the corner.
But Cannon said: ‘So in that statement – those are the tropes that dehumanize Jewish people – the same buck-breaking’ – to which Greenblatt asked what the phrase ‘buck-breaking’ meant.
Cannon explained: ‘The slave masters would bring the buck, the one that gets out of line, so all the other slaves would see lash after lash, showed them the power to set an example. “This is what you must do to fall in line”.
‘So when we see the six things Kyrie must do to get his job back, that’s dehumanizing.’
Cannon shared the video on his Instagram page with the caption ‘the conversation everyone is afraid to have.’
Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League, and Cannon debated the incidents of the last week that ended with Irving suspended for at least five Nets games
Irving apologized for linking to the video last Thursday – after the Nets had suspended him
Irving has been silent since posting his apology last Thursday. His statement said: ‘To All Jewish families and Communities that are hurt and affected from my post, I am deeply sorry to have caused you pain, and I apologize.
‘I initially reacted out of emotion to being unjustly labeled Anti-Semitic, instead of focusing on the healing process of my Jewish Brothers and Sisters that were hurt from the hateful remarks made in the Documentary.
‘I had no intentions to disrespect any Jewish cultural history regarding the Holocaust or perpetuate any hate. I am learning from this unfortunate event and hope we can find understanding between us all.
‘I am no different than any other human being. I am a seeker of truth and knowledge, and I know who I Am.’
Irving and the Nets pledged to work with the Anti-Defamation League, where Greenblatt is CEO, alongside individually donating $500k to causes that ‘eradicate intolerance.’
Cannon, meanwhile, recently announced that he is expecting his 11th child and his second with partner and model Alyssa Scott.
